Eco-lodges and Safaris / Mateya Safari Lodge

Overview

The recently unveiled Mateya Safari Lodge offers sophisticated travellers an unbeatable combination of refined luxury and an exceptional safari experience in the awe-inspiring and untamed natural beauty of the Madikwe Game Reserve.

Location

Mateya Safari Lodge is located in a malaria-free region of South Africa's North-West Province. The landscape is natural and wild, with fertile plains inhabited by a large selection of game. Mateya offers a flexible safari experience, drawing visitors closer to the 'super-seven' of buffalo, cheetah, elephant, leopard, lion, black & white rhino, wild dog, as well as a vast variety of plains game, and more than 350 bird species.

Accommodation

Exclusive Mateya Safari Lodge accommodates a maximum of ten guests in five individually designed thatch suites of inimitable luxury. Both secluded and spacious, the suites are built in a radial arrangement around a hill and blend seamlessly into the captivating beauty of the landscape. Its high vantage point overlooks a waterhole and the vast Madikwe plains that reach for the horizon.

Mateya Safari Lodge is a galley for one of the worlds' finest art collections, each piece chosen for the manner in which it captures the vibrant spirit of Africa. Guest are introduced to a unique blend of diverse African heritage and inspiration from every corner of the continent. The collection includes 21 original Paul Augustinus paintings and large bronze sculptures by Robert Glen, Dylan Lewis and Donald Greggs. The lodge also houses a rare collection of African literature, dating back to the turn of the 19th century.

Safari

Game drives are taken in open custom-built 4x4 safari vehicles, by professional rangers and tracker. Unlike most other safari lodges, safari excursions are planned around guests' individual requests and interests. To ensure maximum interaction with the ranger, guest numbers are limited to just four per vehicle. Safari activities include day and night drives with state-of-the-art bush 'toys' such as night-vision binoculars and guided walking safaris and bush picnics.
